Automatic bundle tagging system
Introduction
AlpRobTAG-B is a patented system specifically designed for the purpose of labeling hot and cold rolled products (bars, angles, etc.) packed in bundles. The strong and wear-resistant tags are attached by means of a welding pin that can withstand the harsh conditions of the steel industry. The welding process is effective and efficient thanks to a fully automated pin feeding and welding system.
Key features
Automated anthropomorphic robot-based system
Laser profile sensors for highly accurate tool guidance
Precise positioning and secure tag attachment using a special pin
Wear-resistant tagging with stable printing
Customized identification and improved product traceability
Full compliance with operational safety standards
More efficiency and increased productivity
Reduced maintenance and continuous after-sales support
System architecture
AlpTAG-B is contained in a special housing depending on the operating conditions of the plant and in accordance with safety regulations. The robotic cell consists of a 6-axis anthropomorphic robot equipped with an automatic welding gun guided by a vision system. The dedicated pneumatic feeder ensures continuous feeding of welding pins and can be reloaded without interrupting the folder cycle. The system also has two thermal transfer printers that prepare the tags and ensure that printing remains uninterrupted even if maintenance work is performed on one of the units. The HMI panel completes the standard configuration. If necessary, the system can be further integrated with an auxiliary machine vision system that scans the tag in real time to determine whether it has been applied correctly and the information printed correctly.
How it works
The 3D vision system inspects the beam profile and determines the optimal spot on which to apply the tag. It then sends the coordinates to the robot, which proceeds to pick up the printed tag from one of the thermal transfer (or laser) printing units, ensuring a secure grip. At the same time, the pin feeder ensures that the welding gun is properly loaded and ready for use. The robot then positions itself according to the coordinates provided by the system and proceeds to weld the tag onto the billet using the appropriate pin. If the robotic arm has been equipped with the optional machine vision component, based on the Smart Camera, the system can further verify whether the tagging process has been successful and, if a problem is detected (e.g., incorrect or missing information on the tag), it performs the planned measures to give a solution.
